About Myra: Teaching Yoga

Myra K. Rucker is a yoga teacher, and yoga student, who firmly believes in the benefits of  “sthira sukham asanam” (Yoga Sutras, II:46) – steady, joyful practice. Her introduction to yoga, practicing once a week between professional dancers and musicians (of various ages and fitness levels), quickly illustrated how yoga provides a path for anyone and everyone to be the best version of themselves.

A native Texan, Myra has studied with Robert Boustany, Rie Congelio, Paul Barrera, Meredith Bowerman, and Jasna Chavalo Abrams. She has also taken workshops with Ana Forrest, Bryan Kest, and Dianne Bondy. Immediately after completing CorePower Yoga’s 200-Hour Teacher Training, Myra began teaching “yoga parties” in people’s homes. She has also completed Level I and Level II Yin Yoga Teacher Training with Michelle Pietrzak-Wegner and  Vinyasa Teacher Training with Seane Corn.

Myra’s teaching philosophy centers around the fact that smiling changes brain chemistry. She is also inspired by the idea that yoga (union) – and life – are like a poem, which, as Robert Frost said, “. . . begins in delight and ends in wisdom.”

Myra,

I met you early one morning at Northern Lights Tea in downtown Minneapolis a couple weeks ago. Is your yoga schedule up to date? I’m not very experienced with yoga. What would be a good class for me to attend? Also, I don’t have a yoga mat or anything is that a problem.

Hi Joe,

My schedule is up to date. You are welcome to come to any classes; since they are all open level and modifications are available for every level.

If you are a YMCA member and looking for a way to ease back into the practice, try my Friday night class (5:54 PM @ Downtown) or one of the Sunday classes (10 AM @ Downtown, 2:30 PM & 6:30 PM @ Blaisdell).

If you’re coming to Nokomis, and your schedule will allow it, try the Tuesday class at noon or the Wednesday class at 4:30 PM.

Mats are available at all locations (at some locations there is a $1 rental fee) and we have tons of props at Nokomis.

I look forward to seeing you!

Just FYI – your link on the right “The Fat Yogi” is broken.

Oooh, thanks for the heads up! I will take care of that tonight.

Peace, love, and joy.

6. Annie - March 21, 2016

Myra, last year I took your class at the Y on Good Friday, and it was soooo moving and special. (I can’t remember if it was the lunchtime or after work class.) Do you plan to do something similar this year? I would like to invite some PYTT friends to come if you are. Thank you, and see you soon! Namaste.

Annie, thanks for your interest in a Good Friday class. Yes, I’ll teach a Good Friday themed class during both the lunch time class and the after work class. I’ll on Spy Wednesday. And, I would love for you to bring some guests to any of these classes. Have a good (meaning meaningful) week!

Myra – I nearly got “hooked” this morning – but stopped and did the five Rs. Your class yesterday was exactly what I needed (you always seem to know what I need..) Have a joyful day! Joanie

ajoyfulpractice - July 19, 2016

Joanie, You know I’m always glad to see you in class, but it’s also super cool to know you’re still taking the practice off the mat and living it! Peace, Myra

8. Erin - January 13, 2019

Hi Myra,

I take your class Friday and Sunday nights. This last Friday (the 11th) at the Downtown Y you had a song that you played at the end of class that was a choral, inclusive, acapella version of Psalm 23 and maybe also the Nicene Creed? Can you tell me who made that recording? I loved it and forgot to ask you about it today at class.

Also, love your classes. Thank you for the care and thought you put into each one.

Thanks!
Erin

Hi Erin,

The song you mentioned is Bobby McFerrin’s rendition of Psalm 23 (and it’s one of my favorites for a variety of reasons)! You can find it on the Medicine Music album.

I appreciate your presence at the Y, and look forward to seeing you this weekend!

Peace,
Myra

12. Scott Smith - February 12, 2022

Hi Myra, do you have a preffered payment option for the classes? Venmo? Paypal?

Thanks Scott and Christine.

ajoyfulpractice - February 12, 2022

Thank you for thinking of me. Venmo works (and I can email you that information) or you can use one of the links in the posts (under the “dana” paragraph). Thanks, again, Myra
